If you want to save more money and stop emotional spending, just take some time to do some personal reflection… What is it that causes many of us to fall into the trap of spending money when we don’t have to?  Are we emotionally spending our hard earned money? I just cringe when I hear people say words or phrases such as, “splurge,” “shopping spree,” or “extra cash.”  At the root of all of this type of behavior are our emotions.

For some reason, people attach how they feel to how much money they have or don’t have.  Let’s start with the most wealthy people in the world.  They spend money because they can.  They do not value money as much because they have so much excess, it doesn’t mean that much to them. Yet they build mansions, purchase multiple vehicles, and travel the world without a second thought.  Now, I am not knocking them for spending millions of dollars on those types of things; yet, it shows you what they value and how those types of things make them feel better.

Now, let’s take the “not so wealthy,” which just happens to be the majority of us.  We seem to be effected more by the amount of money we don’t have.  These emotions create a desire to obtain things that we cannot afford.  So, when we attach our emotions to “THINGS” we tend to put ourselves into unhealthy financial situations.  Many of our purchases aren’t event cash purchase, we use credit.

The key, weather you are wealthy or not, it to manage your emotions.  Be responsible with the money you do have.  Use your money to take care of your needs.  And, if you have tons of money, though you can do whatever you want with it, remember all the poor people that pay you your salary and help them with their needs from time-to-time.

If all of our emotions were in check and focused on the right things, millions of people would be doing a lot better and saving more money.  So, don’t be angry, sad, jealous, or greedy.  Rather, be responsible and have a balance, realizing that money, or the lack of it, doesn’t not have to have control over how you feel!

I have done this. I feel worse when I get home with all the stuff. I wind up taking it all back which was a waste of gas, and worse-a waste of valuable time. I can never get that back…
I have know someone very close to me that calls it “treating themselves”. To what…a bill each month, or more clutter..I guess I see things differently now since this many things have hit my life and this economy. I want to feel more organized.
